life in chile is so hard!

the first week is over!
only nine more to go...
chile is amazing! my walk to work itself is just BEAUTIFUL. plus the other students in the program are very very friendly. some more outgoing than others, but all very friendly. Anne reminds me a lot of stephanie (uza-ho) because of random fun :). matt bakes BREAD almost every day, & we go out drinknig almost every night! pisco sours are definitely growing on me. i'm not much into strong drinks, but oh man they can be good. anyone who wants me to bring back pisco, let me know! plus i'm learning a bit of espanol! yo necissitas del espagnol... ? yesterday we went to the mall, and there was a "miss reef" contest! there were a whole bunch of scantily clad brazilian and chilean "mamacitas"! (babes!) they were wearing rash guards (like for surfing) and THONGS! like woah. and then there was the token HOT-ASS brazilian man. oh man hot. hot HOT HOT! and this was at the mall! too cool. the two chilean chicas who live with us are very nice! renee speaks english very well, so she's one of our main translators (don't get me confused though; they both work at ctio also!). maria jose is really nice also, but doesn't speak english as well, so we do a little more hand motions than speaking :). but I taught her how to make brownies today :). estoy bien!
btw, spanish classes start tomorrow. i just hope i won't lose my french in learning spanish! there's a french chic here (sandrine), so i speak french with her whenever i can. she's probably going to work at uc santa cruz soon also. i just hope i can get in there!! that would be my dream come true!!
speaking of astronomy, i really really love my project. it's VERY interesting! ask my about it some time. when i'm drunk though; i don't explain science well when sober.
SO we were in the supermarket this week, and they had yarn there!!! it was acrylic, but it was so cool they actually HAD yarn in the grocery store! :)
i have many more stories... hopefully i'll get time to post about them soon!

so yesterday gwen dislocated her knee. she'll probably need surgery.
this morning, i made a fireball while trying to boil water. apparently there's a gas leak!
a lot of the hair on my right arm is singed...

I've just awoken to my first full day in chile!
it's so amazing here. That's not a very descriptive word, but I'll elaborate later. It's definitely on the order of magnitude of how excited I was when I went to CIMI on Catalina Island in 6th grade :).
I'll post more later; I have to get ready for the first day of work! :)
